The mission of Town & Forest Learning is to provide outstanding educational services to students and families. All services at Town & Forest Learning are provided directly by Deirdre Rubin.

Deirdre is a VT and NH certified English Language Arts teacher and a dissertation-stage doctoral student in Philosophy & Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. She holds a B.A. in Liberal Arts from New School University, an M.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College, an M.A. in Philosophy from Duquesne University and an M.A.T in Literature Education from Bard College.

At the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Bard College, Deirdre learned the Bard College Institute for Writing & Thinking approach. She also studied the Harkness method of teaching at The Humanities Institute for Teachers at Phillips Exeter and The Teachers College Writer’s Workshop approach to teaching writing. She is also experienced in utilizing the Orton-Gillingham approach to spelling and reading instruction.

When it comes to teaching mathematics, Deirdre uses a hands-on, multi-sensory approach that focuses on both concepts and procedures. She is skilled at identifying and solving the root of mathematical difficulties.

Deirdre has taught at the elementary, middle, secondary and university level at schools such as Wesleyan University, Keene State College, Marist College, Iona College, The Masters School, The Langley School and Horace Greeley High School.

Additionally, she has worked for over twenty years in private practice with students and families in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Westchester, The Hudson Valley, Greenwich, CT, Washington DC and Vermont, providing educational guidance and highly supportive and effective one-on-one tutoring sessions in math, reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary development, study skills and test preparation.

Deirdre has helped many students to gain confidence, enjoy learning, achieve top grades and test scores, and gain admission to highly selective educational institutions. She has expertise and experience working with all students including those with intellectual giftedness, ADHD, dyslexia and other learning differences.
